The New Lord of the Rings Series
Amazon have actually made something pretty special. First two episodes are captivating. Shame they couldn’t just put them all out rather than release weekly

Imagine having all the money in the world and not being able to compete with one old professor in a dusty study.

Imagine the endless board meetings and schematics, the diversity placement and CGI wonks gathering together like alchemists desperately trying to make the thing live.

This thing is shit and it doesn't matter how many banal ''inspirational'' speeches the PC characters give out or how loud the music is. The problem is the type of people who work for these studios. They're soulless, vacuous and materialist dullards.

This is just synthetic meat in a different form. The numbers add up, they've spent billions replicating the real thing, so what's the issue here?

The issue is the people who wrote The One Ring script just don't really know what it is to be human. Their approach to Tolkien is the same approach Yuval Harari has to 'hackable humans''. They sense there's something more there, something they're missing. If only they do another data gathering exercise or group study it'll appear, but it never does.

The cruellest irony of all is that this loss of the transcendent was at the core of Tolkien's world.

I sat down to watch it expecting to enjoy it but sadly couldnt get into it and turned off during the first episode to go do something else. The scene with the Snow Troll did it for me, when all the elven 'warriors' were acting like they had never held a sword before. The action was fucking terrible. Only for the hero to come in and down it without breaking sweat, just didnt work for me.

I might give it another shot.

From the BBC:

..."Many of those who watch the show will have two mums or two dads themselves..."...

And, straight out of left field, many of those who watch the show will have one mum and one dad themselves. Maybe less than that. Do you think such a concept will ever become popular (in society or the media)?

... in your eyes Miike... some of us are quite enjoying it... I mean... how dare we...

Re: The New Lord of the Rings Series
the only meltdown I see is from people who think there's a far right conspiracy against the series, rather than it because it is utter dogshit

Re: The New Lord of the Rings Series
There's no meltdown and you pretending to be above all this is all very well. Maybe if they did a remake of Dambusters ith the tranny out of Orange is the New Black playing the pilot and this dude ⬇️ playing the dog, you might be able to wrap your head around why people who appreciate Tolkien aren't overly enjoying the current bastardised version of his work.

No arguments is there though Surf.... I'm enjoying it... and all the gnashing of teeth and spitting bile just because there's Black midgets and birds with blades is not going to change my mind.... I'm just intrigued as to the meltdown of some people over this... it's quite staggeringly brilliant.... oh and we were too poor for a mobile when I was younger... they just stuck a dog in my cot to keep me amused.

I'm waiting for the season to end before I start watching House of the Dragon but I'm looking forward to it. At least it is based on something solid. If it is anything like the book then it should be excellent.

''Can you think of a reason why Wonder Woman 1984 and Stargirl didn't get review-bombed?''

Because the internet did not exist?

Re: The New Lord of the Rings Series
I think you'll find that once you work out these elves and dwarves are supposed to be enjoyed as part of a fictional narrative, you might start to respect the whole thing a little more.

Actually, mate, he made you look a bit of a plonker.

It has to be said, being made to look a plonker by Pizzle is some achievement. Congratulations!

Is that so?

Have you, on consideration, decided the text in which said elves and dwarves appear needs to be treated as a work of fiction?

I find it difficult to take anything with elves and dwarves, or dragons and unicorns in it, seriously.

NS

That's it , mate. If you can't argue against what someone has posted, just pretend they've posted something different and argue against that.

It's OK. I get it. You like pretty things. I bet you had one fuck-off mobile when you were a baby.
